There’s an endearing story that B-Lovee likes to tell about the creation of “My Everything,” his 2021 track that recently set TikTok ablaze. Created by prominent NYC drill producer Cash Cobain, the beat affixes Mary J Blige’s “Everything” melody to gurgling 808s and acidic trap hats. These Frankenstein mash-ups, of course, are quintessential TikTok material, but that wasn’t on B-Lovee’s mind at inception. “I wasn’t going to drop it. I heard the beat, and I’m like ‘Oh, my mom’s gonna like this.’ I made that beat for her to listen to [while] cleaning up the crib.” That little nugget summarizes all you need to know about the South Bronx native who calls himself the “neighborhood hero.” Don’t get it twisted, B-Lovee has all the jagged edges requisite to be a drill standout: A subtle sandpaper rasp tinges his voice, and his lyrics are as raw, lewd, and crude as Herbo’s or Pop’s. But B-Lovee’s also open about striving to be a strong role model to the “next generation.” On his latest track, “Don’t Change,” he sends a message about keeping composure through his newfound success.
